Dr Carlos Sánchez Escalante is Venezuelan; he completed his medical degree with honors at the Latin American Medicine School (Havana – Cuba) residency in critical medicine at the Intensive Care Unit of the Dr Domingo Luciani Hospital (Caracas – Venezuela).
Since several years he has lived in Ecuador and founded and led intensive care units and emergency departments, was Vice Director of one of the leading hospitals of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute, and contributed to the preparation and contingency plan to face the pandemic COVID-19, he currently serves as head of the Intensive Care services at the IESS Quevedo General Hospital (Ecuador).
In recent years Dr Carlos Sánchez has focused with a particular interest in sepsis, septic shock, especially in sepsis management under limited resources environments, airway management and more recently to the humanization of intensive care, is a national and regional benchmark on these issues. He has participated as a speaker in national and international events, founder of the Proyecto Sepsis Ecuador, a workgroup that aims to raise awareness about sepsis, as well as improve its global management.
Dr Carlos Sánchez is member of the Ecuadorian Society of Intensive Care and the Latin American Institute of Sepsis and active SCCM member.
